Fires in the Los Angeles County again – Where are the firefighters?
Where are the fire fighter helicopters/planes/tracks/personal to take out the fire? All I see are those News helicopters flying over blabbing on evacuation… blah, blah, blah. Why won’t they get their and take the damn fire out? I don’t live in that region (I watch it on TV), but in Europe and other places outside the US firefighters work much more effectively to take out fires.
So what’s up? Those fires are a joke!
Well, that is because in Europe, such services paid by tax are thought of as essential to the quality of life. Over here in the US, people tend to think of anything that is in the government budget as a waste of money. So, since Americans don’t want their tax dollars going to pay for putting out someone else’s fire, we have less equipment and firefighters to do the job. 
Edit: In all seriousness, the media makes every wild fire out to be an unusual event. In reality they have been a yearly event for centuries. Fire fighters are battling the blaze strategically. Some of them are contained, while others are put out easily. Most of the large fires are started by lightning strikes, and fools who don’t put out their camp fires. Even a cigarette can start a major blaze in a dry spot; it happens.
In Europe, the media just reports the news. So it seems different. Here, the media is all about entertainment and drama that will make ratings climb.
